Summary of Service

We will provide information about organisations providing social activities, through centres, clubs and in other ways. We can assess your needs and if eligible, we can support you to access facilities such as day care centres.

Details of Service

Day services include a range of activities which are available to support people during the day or evening. This includes the more traditional 'Day Centres' which are run in a particular building or in a residential care home using the facilities of that home. In addition, new ways of providing day services are being explored and developed and further information can be obtained about local options from our Social Care Helpdesk.

Needs

The assessment of your needs, which are carried out by our care managers, includes a consideration of activities for older people. An assessment of need is a discussion with you to find out how best to support you with the problems you are having. We will look at your needs and decide whether you are eligible for services including attending a day centre. There are more details about eligibility for our services below. Our services cover:

  • Care management
  • Occupational therapy
  • Hospital social work
  • Hearing and vision services (e.g. mobility training)
  • Community social work
  • Direct payments
  • Domiciliary care
  • Residential /nursing home placements
  • Luncheon clubs
  • Meals on wheels
  • Day services
  • Supported employment
  • Supported living

Eligibility

As we receive more requests for help than there is available funding to cover, we have to decide: who should get a service, in what order of priority, how services can best be provided, whether we will provide the service ourselves or suggest another more appropriate organisation. This is to ensure that people in greatest need will get the most help. For more information please see our Eligibility Criteria for Adult and Community Services.
