Wiltshire Council, Chippenham Town Council, Chippenham and Villages Area Partnership and Chippenham Borough Lands Charity funded and worked together to engage the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra (BSO), through its education and community department, on a community music project for the Chippenham area.
Chippenham residents took part in music workshops led by the Orchestra’s musicians and had opportunities to play in and attend a number of concerts at the Neeld Hall.
Musicians from the brass section of BSO ran music workshops for young people from Chippenham's secondary schools, who performed alongside the BSO brass on 25 November 2011.
Musicians have also held workshops at 3 primary schools in the Chippenham community area. This was followed by a family concert full of pirate adventures, sea songs, stories and dance at the Neeld Hall on 3 March 2012.
Amateur musicians joined BSO players for a day of music making on 22 April 2012, which ended in a fabulous performance to an audience of invited friends and family of Dvorak Symphony No.8
The partnership wishes to develop this professional and high quality music programme including opportunities to take part in practical music-making. If you wanted to register your interest in getting involved in any future project in Chippenham, please contact arts development at Wiltshire Council on 01249 705531 or arts@wiltshire.gov.uk
