Summary of Service
The Authority monitors and evaluates the performance of all schools using a range of indicators, including performance data from tests and teacher assessment at each Key Stage.
We provide challenge and support to build capacity to sustain improvement in a way that reflects the spirit of the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) Code of Conduct for LEA/School Relations. All our work is intended to help schools become autonomous and self improving. In this way we support the on-going improvement in standards for children in Wiltshire schools.
Details of Service
Schools’ performance is monitored by the Office for Standards in Education (OfSTED). OfSTED produces a Performance and Assessment (PANDA) report for each school showing how it compares with others. This enables schools to evaluate their own strengths and weaknesses and develop plans to raise standards. The information is also used by our advisors and consultants before they visit schools.

From 2005, Governing bodies will be replacing the Governors’ annual report to parents with a new ‘school profile’ detailing information about the performance of pupils from the school in the last academic year. This will be published once a year by every school.
The test results for Wiltshire schools are published in performance tables for Key Stages 2, 3 and 4 and post 16. Currently there are no performance tables for Key Stage 1.
