North Wiltshire Economic Assessment Report December 2008

Recent events in the British global economies have received much media coverage in the past months. Central and Local Government have been encouraged to take action to support businesses and the economy through this difficult time.

At the end of 2008, the District Council's Executive Committee commissioned officers and an economist from GWE Business West Research to assess the economic position in North Wiltshire and to recommend actions to help businesses. The reports are attached below.

South Wiltshire

South Wiltshire offers an excellent environment for business growth and success.

The area boasts an attractive combination of factors: existing business facilities, potential business sites and a pool of skilled labour, plus a high quality of life for a company's employees and their families.

Wiltshire Council works to sustain and develop a competitive economy for south Wiltshire, and a high quality of life for its residents. We aim to develop the district's economy by encouraging new investment and supporting existing business.

We work closely with the other members of the South Wiltshire Economic Partnership and in other partnerships to meet many of these objectives.

West Wiltshire

High quality of life is one of West Wiltshire’s most valued and recognised attributes. Beautiful farmed countryside, picturesque villages and bustling market towns offer a wide choice of business locations. This, combined with a good transport infrastructure and a skilled workforce means it is an appealing, yet practical location for any business.

Our Economic Development officer is involved with a range of community initiatives and is located within our Sustainable Communities section.

The West Wiltshire Economic Partnership (WWEP) aims to promote the economic well-being of the area.
