We achieve this through:
- Providing consumer advice, information and education to create confident, knowledgeable and demanding consumers.
- Securing compliance with the law to protect the consumer and to ensure legitimate businesses are not undermined by unfair competition and unfair trading practices.
- Providing advice and guidance to help reputable businesses comply with the law, plus advice for manufacturers, importers and retailers of all sorts of consumer goods, for farmers, for businesses who provide services to consumers, as well as for the consumers themselves.

Consumer Direct
Wiltshire Council's trading standards service works in partnership with Consumer Direct to provide free, impartial consumer advice.
For help on most consumer issues and for advice, you can contact Consumer Direct by telephone on 08454 04 05 06. This is the national number that is answered by any one of six Consumer Direct centres around the country.
If you wish to ensure you continue to receive your advice from the same single centre you may wish to call 01209 720333. Normal charges will apply as this is not a premium rate number.
The Consumer Direct helpline is open every weekday Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm, excluding Bank and Public Holidays.
You can also contact Consumer Direct by filling out an online form with your enquiry via the Direct.Gov website at any time.
