About this service
To promote and maintain a safe and fair trading environment for the benefit of consumers and business in the Wiltshire Council area.
We achieve this through:
- Providing consumer advice, information and education to create confident, knowledgeable and demanding consumers.
- Securing compliance with the law to protect the consumer and to ensure legitimate businesses are not undermined by unfair competition and unfair trading practices.
- Providing advice and guidance to help reputable businesses comply with the law, plus advice for manufacturers, importers and retailers of all sorts of consumer goods, for farmers, for businesses who provide services to consumers, as well as for the consumers themselves.
Wiltshire Council's trading standards service works in partnership with Consumer Direct to provide free, impartial consumer advice.
Consumer Direct is a telephone and online consumer advice service, supported by the Office of Fair Trading.
Consumer Direct provides clear, practical advice to help consumers sort out problems and disagreements with suppliers of goods or services.
The Consumer Direct telephone service is now a national service and should be your first point of contact for all consumer advice calls and emails.
