Food safety regulations
About this service
The Food Safety Act 1990 and regulations made under it make it an offence for anyone to sell or process food for sale which does not meet compositional standards, is not labelled correctly or is misdescribed. The Council provides free advice to individuals wishing to set up a food business or to existing business owners.
Proprietors of a food business have responsibilities under food safety legislation. They must ensure that the food or drink they produce is labelled correctly and that it meets relevant compositional standards.
Needs
As a proprietor you are responsible for checking specifically what you need to do to comply with the legislation. Failure to do this could lead to formal action being taken, which could result in financial penalties and accompanying adverse publicity.
Payment
Request for further information and advice must come from a person operating or intending to operate a food business in Wiltshire.
