The Government requires that the County Council leads on producing a comprehensive strategy for Wiltshire, which identifies the main issues facing the County, and sets out what all key organisations are doing to address these.
We have developed this 'Strategy for Wiltshire - a County fit for our children' (launched March 2004) through the Wiltshire Strategic Board, the multi-agency local strategic partnership for the County.
The County Council, again working through the Wiltshire Strategic Board, is in the process of negotiating a Local Public Service Agreement with the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM). This Agreement will set specific stretch targets for aspects of the Strategy for Wiltshire, which the Government will financially reward if these are met over a three year period.

Similarly, the Strategy for Wiltshire (which will be revised by Christmas 2005), will be at the heart of a Local Area Agreement with Government.
This Agreement will help focus the input of government departments into Wiltshire on local priorities and issues. It should also simplify funding, administrative and decision-making processes, and offer flexibilities in service delivery.
It needs to be agreed between local authorities and their partners with Government by the end of March 2007, and will run for three years, in the first instance.
