At the 15 February Cabinet meeting, councillors approved a programme of work to deliver community campuses across the county and – starting with five specific community areas over the next two years – to develop and test alternative solutions to the management of public services. Cricklade has been identified as one of the areas to be involved in this first phase of work which is being referred to as the ‘preliminary management project’.
Further background information to the project can be found in the paper presented to Cabinet and the indicative timeline below:
Cricklade campus consultation
The Cricklade Shadow Community Operations Board (Shadow COB) are consulting with local residents on the proposal for a campus in the Cricklade area. This questionnaire is your opportunity to be part of an exciting new venture – please take time to join in and feedback your views on what the local people of the Cricklade area want and need in a campus. This consultation is an essential part of the process to ensure the services included in a campus are what people across the whole community feel are needed now and for future generations
This survey for the initial phase of consultation around a campus proposal for the Cricklade area has been extended and will now close on 16 September 2011.
What is a campus?
Community campuses will be developed through input from local people ensuring each campus is as individual as the community it serves. They will provide the services communities need in one easy-to-access location – placing customers and their needs at the heart of future plans.
These campuses could be new buildings or greatly-improved and developed existing buildings. In other cases the proposal is to look at community-run leisure facilities which could be expanded to accommodate additional services or facilities.
The aim is to make maximum and efficient use of the council’s buildings – both new and existing – and create campuses that deliver more for local communities.
Cricklade residents sought to help shape exciting campus project
Local people are being asked to help represent the needs of the wider community and to play a key role in the Cricklade campus project which will help shape the future of services in the community area.
The Cricklade Shadow Community Operations Board (Shadow COB) has a vacancy for someone to represent the wider community for the Cricklade area and would like to invite applications from residents local to the Cricklade area who are interested in joining the group, to express an interest and help move the project forward.
People wishing to join the Shadow COB should express an interest by 22 May 2012. Applicants could be members of the public or representatives of local groups or organisations, or a representative from a parish council who are able to represent the views of the wider Cricklade community.
Even if you are unable to commit to a long term involvement, but feel you have skills and energy which could be useful, the COB would be interested to hear from you. If you want to discuss what is involved before making an application please email either CampusConsultation@wiltshire.gov.uk or Cllr Peter Colmer at peter.colmer@wiltshire.gov.uk or telephone the campus team on 01225 718350.
Local people can apply to be involved in the Shadow COB by completing an expression of interest form below. If you would like more information please contact CampusConsultation@wiltshire.gov.uk

Cricklade Campus Update
First round of consultation is complete and results were communicated at the Wiltshire Council Area Board, on 12th October. The Area Board agreed that we can move on to a more detailed round of consultation for the Cricklade area campus.
The Proposal is that Cricklade has a split site Campus including the Leisure Centre and either the existing Ockwells buildings (the current Cricklade Town Council Offices and Library) or Police Station building on the High Street.
The majority of responses were in favour of providing the services in a Campus type set up. The proposal to have a split site Campus, with one of the building being near the High Street, was driven by community feedback and preference. There was strong support for availability of Internet, Flexible Space for use by a variety of groups, access to Local Government services, Cafe, Library, Youth and Children's facilities along with Leisure and Sports provision.
This initial proposal was based on the questionnaires that were sent out by the Shadow Community Operation Board (SCOB) and completed by local residents in August/September. The SCOB is a group of local people who have been asked to work on a proposal for the future of local service provision for Cricklade and surrounding areas.
There will be two open meetings where more information will be available and a chance to express your views, meet some of the group (Shadow Operations Board – SCOB) who are representing the Cricklade Community in this process, and by giving your input to help in planning the next stage which will be looking at the detail of facilities and services.
The two Open Session Meetings are:
| Date | Time | Venue |
|---|---|---|
| 7 December 2011 | 2pm - 7.30pm | Cricklade Leisure Centre |
| 8 December 2011 | 2pm - 7.30pm | Cricklade Town Council Offices |
Drop in to ask any questions or to find out more information.
Written Feedback boxes will be available during these sessions in Cricklade Town Council Offices/Leisure Centre (bar area)
Cricklade Community Campus - second phase consultation
The second phase of consultation is now underway on what is being proposed for a campus in the Cricklade area.
Local people are being urged to have their say on the facilities they would like to see at a Cricklade campus, and at which site they would prefer to access facilities or services.
People can drop in and talk to Cricklade Shadow COB members about the campus proposals on the following dates:
| Date | Time | Venue |
|---|---|---|
| 7 December 2011 | 2pm - 7.30pm | Cricklade Leisure Centre |
| 8 December 2011 | 2pm - 7.30pm | Cricklade Town Council Offices |
People can also comment on the working proposal through an online survey
The closing date for this phase of consultation is 31 December 2011.
After this second consultation period the shadow board will prepare a list of priorities for the facilities that will be needed in the new campus. A developed campus proposal will be presented to the area board for consideration, and then to Wiltshire Council’s Cabinet.
