New and improved community campus in Melksham Town Centre - on track for delivery

Wiltshire Council is delighted to confirm that, subject to a site assessment and to contract, it will purchase the Melksham House and Blue Pool site in the town centre, currently owned by Cooper Tire.

The site will provide an excellent opportunity for the council to deliver a community campus within Melksham town centre.

On 3 October 2011 Wiltshire Council purchased Melksham House and its grounds subject to a due diligence process. The following document contains frequently asked questions and answers in respect of the development of a campus proposal on the Melksham House site.

Background information

The following information accompanies a presentation made at the Melksham Area Board on Wednesday 2 February 2011 regarding the proposals for a community campus for Melksham.

Local people are invited to consider the following documents alongside the proposals set out in the presentation handout “A community campus for Melksham”. They will then have the opportunity to attend a specially convened area board meeting on Tuesday 29 March 2011, where the board will consider local views and propose an approach to secure a community campus for the Melksham community area.

Melksham Area Board 29 March 2011

Following the presentation made to the area board meeting on Tuesday 29 March 2011, the Melksham Area Board is inviting expressions of interest from representatives of the local community to sit on the Melksham Community Operations Board.

The Area Board would be particularly interested to hear from strategic leaders representing local groups and organisations who feel they may have the necessary skills, expertise and experience to work collectively on developing a campus that meets the needs of all groups within the community area.

If you would like to put yourself forward to represent your community then please download and complete the form below and return to the address given on the form by Friday 15 April 2011. The Area Board can then determine membership of the Community Operations Board.

Following a request at the area board meeting on 29 March for the Melksham community campus Equalities Impact Assessment (EIA) to be published, please see below for the latest draft version of the EIA, which will be updated regularly as the project progresses

The following document contains all the questions submitted in advance of the area board meeting on 29 March, as well as those raised at the meeting itself, with the relevant responses from the council. If you require hard copies of these questions please contact campusconsultation@wiltshire.gov.uk with your name and address.

    Shadow Community Operations Board

The Melksham Shadow Community Operations Board was established by the Area Board  in May 2011. The Board will influence, recommend and consider the detail of the Melksham campus proposal both in terms of design and how it will operate on a day to day basis. The Melksham Shadow Community Operations Board consists of area board and town/parish council representatives and members of the public to ensure it can act on behalf of the local community.

Members of the Melksham Shadow Community Operations Board have developed their own website and blog where you can learn about the latest activities of the board and provide feedback on the campus proposals being developed.
