At the 15 February Cabinet meeting, councillors approved a programme of work to deliver community campuses across the county and - starting with five specific community areas over the next two years - to develop and test alternative solutions to the management of public services. Pewsey has been identified as one of the areas to be involved in this first phase of work which is being referred to as the ‘preliminary management project’.

Further background information to the project can be found in the paper presented to Cabinet and the indicative timeline below:

What is a campus?

Community campuses will be developed through input from local people ensuring each campus is as individual as the community it serves. They will provide the services communities need in one easy-to-access location – placing customers and their needs at the heart of future plans.

These campuses could be new buildings or greatly-improved and developed existing buildings. In other cases the proposal is to look at community-run leisure facilities which could be expanded to accommodate additional services or facilities.

The aim is to make maximum and efficient use of the council’s buildings - both new and existing – and create campuses that deliver more for local communities.

Pewsey Shadow Community Operations Board

At the Pewsey Area Board meeting on 4 July 2011, the Pewsey Area Board confirmed the membership of the Pewsey Shadow Community Operations Board. The members of the Shadow Community Operations Board, along with a short summary of their experience and reasons for expressing an interest in the Pewsey Shadow Community Operations Board are detailed in the document below

Pewsey Area Campus – second phase of consultation

There was a very positive response to our first survey in which 71% of you expressed strong support for a campus facility in Pewsey, embracing a range of centralised public services for access by all who live in the community area.

The two sites being considered are the new library site, and the present Leisure Centre site. It is likely that the new services will be spread over both sites, with a satellite service in the Burbage/Bedwyns area to bring some of the new services nearer to those in the extreme east.

Arising from the first consultation are three broad themes which we shall now pursue in greater detail. These are;

  1. Modern leisure facilities,
  2. Improved youth services,
  3. Other face-to-face community services for adults and the elderly.

Our intention is to bring these various ‘Other’ services into the community;

in other words to ‘re-personalise’ what can be an impersonal world in rural areas such as ours.

Would you now please complete the second questionnaire intended to help us define your needs in more detail. Thank you.
