At the 15 February 2011 Cabinet meeting, councillors approved a programme of work to deliver community campuses across the county and – starting with a number of specific community areas over the next two years – to develop and test alternative solutions to the management of public services. Trowbridge has been identified as one of the areas to be involved in this first phase of work which is being referred to as the ‘preliminary management project’.
Further background information to the project can be found in the paper presented to Cabinet and the timeline below:
What is a campus?
Community campuses will be developed through input from local people making sure each campus is as individual as the community it serves. They will provide the services communities need in one easy-to-access location – placing customers and their needs at the heart of future plans.
These campuses could be new buildings or greatly-improved and developed existing buildings. In other cases the proposal is to look at community-run leisure facilities which could be expanded to accommodate additional services or facilities.
The aim is to make maximum and efficient use of the council’s buildings – both new and existing – and create campuses that deliver more for local communities
Westbury area board meeting – Wednesday 16 February 2012
Following the presentation made to the area board meeting on Wednesday 16 February 2012, The Westbury Area Board are asking local people if they would like to sit on the Westbury Shadow Community Operations Board (Shadow COB).
Local community involvement is critical to the success of campuses because the point is to make sure they reflect the needs of these communities. Creating a campus offers a real opportunity for communities to influence the services in their community area directly, and to plan for the future. Community consultation and development of specific proposals for campus facilities will be taken forward by the local area boards.
Your chance to apply be involved in the Westbury community campus proposal
A Shadow community Operations Board (Shadow COB) is a group of community representatives, determined by the Area Board and working under the auspices of the Area Board, who will influence, recommend and consider the detail of the emerging campus facilities both in terms of how they are designed and how they will operate on a day to day basis
The Westbury Shadow COB will be decided by area board members, and could include representatives from the following broad sectors of the local community area; user and community groups, the wider community, children and young people, town and parish council. There will also be a representative of the Area Board on the Shadow COB
The closing date for expressing an interest in the Westbury Shadow COB is Friday 16th March 2012. The Area Board can then determine membership of the Shadow Community Operations Board
