Crime Reduction and Anti-Social Behaviour Reduction Teams

Service Purpose

Safer Communities is made up of two small specialist teams, Crime Reduction and Anti-Social Behaviour Reduction. The Crime Reduction Team are based in Trowbridge, co-located with staff from Targeted Support (services for young people) and the Wiltshire Criminal Justice Board. Also hosted within the crime reduction team are community safety partnership support staff. The Anti-Social Behaviour ReductionTeam have their main base in Devizes with an outreach worker based in Salisbury.

The teams ensure that the Council’s responses to crime reduction, community safety and anti-social behaviour reduction are maximised and obligations under the Crime and Disorder Act are satisfied. They work across all departments and services in the local authority, often involved and facilitating joint initiatives.

The teams also provide specialist support to the Community Safety Partnership, Community Area Partnerships and the Children’s & Young People’s Trust Board.

A key role is to work alongside staff from partner agencies, in both the statutory and voluntary sector, to support and deliver the ‘Safer’ ambitions of the Local Agreement Wiltshire (L.A.W) and to achieve regionally set performance targets and local strategies for keeping communities safe.

Community safety, anti-social behaviour, domestic abuse and substance misuse can affect individuals, families and communities. The teams work within the local authority and with partners to strategically plan and co-ordinate activity to address these issues.

Organisations that the teams work with include; Wiltshire Police, Wiltshire Police Authority, Wiltshire Probation, Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, Wiltshire Criminal Justice Board, NHS Wiltshire, Registered Social Landlords, voluntary and community groups.

Wiltshire Council recognises that vulnerable adults can be abused and are committed to working in partnership with other agencies both to prevent abuse and to investigate allegations of abuse. For further information please go to the safeguarding (protecting) vulnerable adults web pages
