Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras are installed in many public places throughout Salisbury City centre, the centres of Amesbury and Wilton.
They are there to help protect the people who live, work or visit the areas, to help protect their property, including vehicles in car parks, and to assist the Council to manage those areas by efficient delivery of services.
How do CCTV cameras help to reduce crime in those areas?
- Their presence dissuades crime and anti-social behaviour.
- They provide high quality evidence to assist in the prosecution of offenders.
- They aid the emergency services.
- They encourage greater use of the areas covered.
- They help to reduce the fear of crime.
