Wiltshire Biodiversity Action Plan
In 2002 a partnership of organisations, which includes the Council, published the Wiltshire BAP. The BAP is a strategic framework for the conservation and enhancement of Wiltshire’s wealth of habitats and species. The BAP includes a series of Habitat Action Plans each covering a Wiltshire priority habitat and a Species Action Plan for bats. The action plans serve a number of important functions:
- Provide baseline information on our current knowledge;
- Identify current conservation issues;
- Set out targets to work towards;
- Co-ordinate and focus action for biodiversity;
- Raise awareness amongst all sectors;
- Provide a monitoring framework.
The Council is committed to the implementation of the Wiltshire BAP and is involved with the work of Habitat Working Groups, which drive the implementation of each of the Habitat Action Plans, as well as the project Steering Group.
