The Cricklade Country Way project is a unique and exciting scheme, which aims to create a green recreational and wildlife corridor linking Swindon to Cricklade and the Cotswold Water Park. The Cricklade Country Way will start at Mouldon Hill Country Park on the northern edge of Swindon and visitors will be able to travel between Swindon, Cricklade and the Cotswold Water Park by boat (along the restored North Wilts Canal), by train (along an extension of the Cricklade and Swindon steam railway) and by foot (along reinstated North Wilts Canal and Cotswold Canals towpaths).
A partnership of local authorities and interested groups, which includes Wiltshire Council, is helping to drive the project forward. Wiltshire Council is also supporting the project with financial contributions and technical assistance.
Key project elements include 5 miles of restored canal; canal basins, moorings and a marina; 5 miles of restored steam railway; a new 48 ha country park at Mouldon Hill; 140 ha of new community forest and woodland; 17 miles of new and improved cycleway and towpath / footpaths; an interpretive community influenced public art trail; a new visitor, education and sports facility by the canal at Cricklade; and the creation of new woodland and aquatic habitats for wildlife.
