Wiltshire Council and its partners have set out a vision for the future of Wiltshire, and the broad outline of how to make this vision a reality, in a document called the Sustainable Community Strategy for Wiltshire

The Local Agreement for Wiltshire (LAW) (an agreement between organisations in Wiltshire to take action to improve the quality of life within Wiltshire) and within this, the Local Area Agreement (LAA)  (an agreement between Wiltshire Council and the Government) is the delivery mechanism for this community strategy.

The new Wiltshire’s Family of Partnerships are how the Council and its partners will work together to make things happen to improve the quality of life in Wiltshire.

Within this family of partnerships, Thematic Delivery Partnerships are responsible for delivering significant action and developing strategy to achieve the ambitions within the LAW and the LAA. The Wiltshire Environmental Alliance, which brings together the public, private, voluntary and community sectors is one such Thematic Delivery Partnership and addresses the areas of biodiversity, climate change and waste minimisation.

The role of the Wiltshire Environmental Alliance is:

• To help develop and promote a vision for a sustainable future for wildlife and people of Wiltshire.
• Identity priorities for Wiltshire.
• Provide a forum for debate and ownership of the environmental input into the Sustainable Community Strategy and Local Area Agreement.
• Monitor movement towards the vision.
• Monitor progress of the new National Indicators of environmental sustainability.
• Enable accountability of the partnership to the wider Wiltshire environmental network.
• Build partnerships.
• Pool ideas and share issues.
• Provide leadership and focus.
• Promote action.
