Purpose

The Standards Committee was established in 2000 in advance of the adoption of Wiltshire's Constitution. The Committee is broadly responsible for ethical governance issues within the County Council, and has a wide range of duties such as:

  • Promotion and maintenance of standards across the County Council
  • Hearing compaints in relation to council services.
  • Reviewing the County Council''s Constitution, including areas such as codes of conduct and complaints procedures.
  • Working with Internal Audit and the Audit Commission to monitor standards of conduct.
  • Determining complaints in relation to the conduct of County Councillors.

This Committee follows the rules and procedures detailed within the Constitution.

Membership

The Chairman for the municipal year is Mr Keith Shipman.

The Vice Chair is Mrs Isabel McCord.

The Committee is comprised of 3 elected members other than the Leader of the Council, and 6 voting co-optees (membership).
