There are several ways in which both the public and members of the Council can get involved with the work of Overview & Scrutiny. These are:
Under the County Council´s constitution any elected member of the Committee, or 5 members of the Council may request an item to be considered by overview and scrutiny.
In order to submit an item for consideration by the Overview & Scrutiny Committee a member request form (pdf 57Kb)
should be completed.
Note: Please read the form carefully and ensure that you have completed all relevant sections before submitting you request.
Members of the public are welcome to ask questions or make statement at any public meetings of the County Council, this includes those meetings under the overview & Scrutiny function.
To ask a question or make a statement a public participation questionnaire must be completed.
Note: Please read all instructions on the public participation page, then either complete the online form or print it off and post it to the address detailed.
A publicity strategy for overview and scrutiny has been adopted with the aim:
'To help Wiltshire County Council achieve its aims and objectives through continuous service improvement and the maintenance of open and democratic governance.'
It is important for It is important for the scrutiny function to have an identity and role that is defined and understood by Members, the public and officers of the County Council. Effectively communicating the aims and outcomes of the scrutiny process helps to create a distinct purpose for scrutiny and leads to the development of a function that engages the decision making process and adds benefit to the Council's service delivery.
