Advice and support for complaints

The following organisations can provide further advice and support, depending on the nature of your complaint. If you are unsure who to speak to or want some general advice, please contact the corporate complaints team.

Local Government Ombudsman
The Local Government Ombudsman is an independent organisation, set up to look at complaints made against councils and some other authorities. You will normally be expected to complain to your local council first of all, in order that we have the opportunity to investigate and resolve your complaint. Housing Ombudsman
The Housing Ombudsman is an independent organisation, set up to consider complaints against landlords and agents and other housing disputes. They do not provide housing or accommodation advice. For further information, go to the website or contact them on 020 7421 3800 or Lo-call 0845 7125 973.

British and Irish Ombudsman Association
An information point concerning the various different ombudsman and other complaint-handling bodies. The association does not deal directly with complaints but acts as a signpost to other organisations who may be able to assist you. Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman
The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman is an independent organisation, set up to consider complaints against uk government departments, associated agencies and the NHS. For further information, go to the website or contact them on the complaints helpline 0345 015 4033

Planning Inspectorate
The Planning Inspectorate deals with the processing of planning and enforcement appeals, other planning related casework and on a wider scale considers local development plans and regional spatial strategies. For more information, go to the website or call 0117 372 6372.

Traffic Penalty Tribunal
The Traffic Penalty Tribunal has been set up to consider appeals against parking penalties which have been issued by all local authorities outside of London. It is the final stage of appeal and it is important to have first challenged the notice by the penalty-issuing authority. For further information, go to the website or contact them on 0161 242 5252.

Equality and Human Rights Commission
An independent statutory body dealing with all issues concerning equality and diversity. For further information, go to the website or contact them on 0845 604 6610.

Citizens Advice Bureau
A free and independent service set up to assist people with legal, financial and other problems. For further information, go to the website for local contact details. There are offices across Wiltshire, which you will be able to search for on the site.  

Ask
A not for profit organisation and registered charity set up to provide information, advice and specific services for parents. For further information go to the website or contact them on 08457 585072.

Parentscentre
A central government site set up to provide information and support to parents on their child’s learning. For further information go to the website.

Wessex Mediation
Wessex Mediation is a free service to all parents, designed to help parents/carers and local education authorities reach a solution when there is a disagreement concerning special education needs. For further information go to the website or contact them on 0845 052 9487.
