The Unit is integrated within the Environmental Services Department of the County Council and currently has a team of seven staff. Roles and responsibilities of team members are shown here Areas of Responsibility (pdf 20Kb)
. Over and above these daytime responsibilities the Unit provides a 24/7 Duty Officer cover who acts as the first point of contact for the emergency services in the event of an incident.
For normal day-to-day working the Unit sits within the Environmental Service Department (ESD) and reports to the Director of ESD. However, in the event of an emergency and the County Council generating a response then effective line of reporting passes to the Chief Executive who will be responsible for leading the County response closely supported by the Emergency Planning Unit
