Wiltshire Council supports the Staff Disability Forum. All staff who consider themselves to have a disability have the right to attend. Disabilities can both be physical and obvious, sensory and less apparent or hidden, such as diabetes or dyslexia. Employees are encouraged to declare a disability either in confidence or in order to receive additional support (reasonable adjustments).
The purpose of the forum is to provide mutual support, to help inform all staff about disability awareness and to advise management on how to improve the quality of working life for staff with a disability and to act as a consultative voice to the council.
Our forum members come from all over the county to attend meetings, not just those who work at County Hall and whether a disability needs to be acknowledged or not, all experiences are valued in the forum.
We invite representative officers, for example from HR and ICT, to our meetings to address disability-related issues in the work environment.

Disability symbol success
Wiltshire Council's application for use of the disability symbol "Positive about disabled people" (sometimes known as the double tick symbol) has just been successful. Jobcentre Plus have written:
“After careful consideration of the application, I have pleasure in confirming the award of the disability symbol to Wiltshire Council for the forthcoming year. Because being a symbol user is a very public commitment we will review symbol users on an annual basis.”
One of the commitments is to guarantee an interview to all disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for a job vacancy and consider them on their abilities.
