We are once again approaching the time when we will be setting next year’s budget. Your views are important to us and we would like your input into what you feel should be the priorities for the county council for the coming year. With this in mind, we have organised five consultation meetings during November and would like to invite you to attend.

If you have a project that has an impact upon the community, the economy and the environment and you live in or around the Cranborne Chase and West Wiltshire Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), then you may have a chance of gaining funding thorugh the AONB Sustainable Development Fund. As a result of a request from passengers, there will be an additional pick-up point on bus service 75 from Nettleton during the school holidays. This will save passengers a long walk to Burton. As a result the bus will leave

The issue of access to opticians for those who are housebound or do not have easy access to transport has been raised in some of the feedback received in parish plans. Link schemes can offer the chance for people to get to these services but there is also another alternative. Some companies offer a mobile opticians’ service which can provide sight tests and glasses in people’s homes. An internet search for “mobile opticians” can bring up a number of these companies and some are listed on the following webpage

The second issue of the Intelligence Network newsletter was published in June 2007. This is a publication designed to keep people in Wiltshire informed about research going on in the public sector community. The newsletter is brought to you by Wiltshire County Council’s corporate research team and the Intelligence Network partnership. This issue contains articles and information on neighbourhood policing team profiles, social services and health profiles, Cricklade country way and ACKnowledge. This electronic newsletter can also be accessed via the homepage of the Intelligence Network by clicking the “Library” tab and searching for “newsletter” in the title box.
The roles of two cabinet members have been changed with Mary Douglas now being responsible for culture, including libraries and heritage and with John Thomson now being solely responsible for community services, which includes adult social services and community safety. Mr. Thomson continues to be deputy leader of the county council.
Following the issue of revised guidance ‘Setting Local Speet Limits – Dept. for Transport Circular 01/2006”, a strategy for setting appropriate speed limits has been agreed by the county council for Wiltshire. The county council is really pleased to announce that this publication has been shortlisted in the Chartered Institute of Public Relations Local Government Excellence Awards in the Best Use of E-media category.
