Work is well underway to redesign the One Council website. We are trying to ensure that much more information about the transition to Wiltshire Council is available to you. We are planning to add a parish/town council section. If you have any feedback in relation to information you would like to see on the website please contact Claire Adams in the Communications Team 01225 756177 or claireadams@wiltshire.gov.uk
Stage one of the Boundary Review has now been completed. After a period of consultation with town, parish and district councils, the county council met on 18th April to agree their submission to the Boundary Committee. The council's recommendations for the new electoral divisions were then submitted to the Boundary Committee on 21st April. The submission is available on the county council website.
The Boundary Committee will now consider all proposals received during stage one and prepare their draft recommendations. An eight week consultation period, seeking comments on the Boundary Committee's draft recommendations, is due to start in early July 2008. Formal responses to those town and parish councils who submitted comments during the formal consultation process will now be prepared.
The parish meet and greet sessions are almost complete with just the one at Marlborough to take place on 7th May. The sessions at Devizes, Salisbury, Chippenham and Trowbridge were well attended with some lively debate and interesting issues raised. Questions and answers from these meetings will be available on the One Council website. by Friday, 9th May. All papers that were handed out at the meet and greet sessions canalso be found by visiting the same link.
The library service is carrying out a review of our mobile library routes and would appreciate the comments of your council on the proposed mobile library schedules for your area. A full set of proposed schedules in alphabetical order by community and by route can be found by visiting the Wiltshire Libraries home page at and follow the links to 'mobile library consultation'.
If you do not have access to the internet, please contact Denise Foster 01225 713707 and she will send you a copy of the appropriate draft schedules for your comments.
Please send any comments to Joan Davis by Friday, 25th July at joandavis@wiltshire.gov.uk and it would be very helpful if you could precisely identify the stop in the event of a query e.g. "route B, stop 6". Also during this period, staff on the four Wiltshire mobile libraries will be consulting with their users.
There have been active community area partnerships in other parts of the county for some years and we would now like to develop them across south Wiltshire so that they can work with the new community boards at a local level.
Please come along to the Guildhall in Salisbury on 13th May from 6.00 - 8.30 p.m. to examine the benefits of partnership working and help to get them up and running in south Wiltshire. Contact Tamsin Ewers on 01722 434223 or TEwers@salisbury.gov.uk for more details or to reserve a place.
Community area partnerships in the rest of Wiltshire typically cover a market town and surrounding parishes. Their members meet to identify local issues and develop a community action plan which is then monitored for progress
The Wiltshire County Council stand at the Bath & West Show this year (28-31 May) will concentrate on promoting the variety and range of attractions around the county. Staff from the VisitWiltshire Tourism Partnership will be demonstrating the new website and their very different 2008 brochure. There'll also be a selection of local food and drink providers, plus crafts people on hand to provide real interest for visitors. With so many ideas for things to see and do around Wiltshire, visitors to the Bath & West Show will find many more ideas for great days out around the county this summer.
The latest figures show people in Wiltshire are recycling more than ever and the county council is hoping that performance can get even better! As part of that effort, the council is offering discounted food waste digesters to residents. They can deal with raw and cooked waste including items as fruit, vegetables, bones, pasta, fish and meat.
There are two types of digester available - you can order one by ringing 0800 019 2064 (free) or via www.greencone.com
