		Introduction to the strategy
<p>The Wiltshire Strategic Board is pleased to present its strategy to make Wiltshire &#8216;a county fit for our children&#8217;.</p>
<p>Government legislation placed upon councils the duty to promote the &#8216;social, economic and environmental wellbeing&#8217; of the areas they serve. The Government has encouraged councils to establish local strategic partnerships (LSPs) to enable them to pursue this duty, and encouraged them to describe the measures they will take in &#8216;community strategies&#8217;. The Wiltshire Strategic Board is the county&#8217;s Local Strategic Partnership (LSP), and this plan is our community strategy. We have called it a Strategy for Wiltshire in order to avoid confusion with more local plans in the county. Further information about the board&#8217;s work is provided in its annual report. </p>
<p>The board is in the process of revising its strategy so that it can provide a robust basis for the selection of topics for a Local Area Agreement with Government later in 2006. </p>
<p>The consultation on the draft revised Strategy for Wiltshire 2006 goes on until 21st April 2006. If you would like to comment on the draft Strategy, please contact us on <a href="mailto:communitystrategy@wiltshire.gov.uk"><u>communitystrategy@wiltshire.gov.uk</u></a>. </p>
