Brief description of the partnership
The Resilient Communities Partnership is a new partnership. It includes members from the Local Authorities, Citizens Advice Bureaux, Councils for Voluntary Service, Rural Community Council. Community Foundation, Racial Equality Council, Compact and other partnerships such as the Voluntary and Community Sector Infrastructure Consortium, the Voluntary Sector Forum, the Social Inclusion Partnership and the Community Safety Partnership.
Its primary purpose will be, in the short term, to ensure the actions within the Local Agreement for Wiltshire (LAW) are achieved. Longer term it hopes to carry forward other community empowerment and cohesion issues across the county.

Priority actions for the Resilient Communities Partnership within LAW
1.Engage all our communities in Wiltshire, inclusively, to ascertain their priorities and empower them to be part of the delivery of solutions. This will make their community a better place to live and or work.
- Strengthen our community planning infrastructure
- Develop an equalities organisation to fully represent the 6 equality strands
- Establish Wiltshire Financial Inclusion Taskforce – debt advice, benefits take-up, informed choices
- Seek community engagement in intergenerational sport and cultural activities
- Consult with local communities to seek local solutions to ensure improved access to essential services, and
- Improve access to goods, services, education and employment opportunities for all sections of the community, but particularly those living in rural areas or without access to a car
2.Enhance the democratic framework in Wiltshire by which people can participate in their local area and feel they can influence the decisions made in their locality
- Establish an effective model of community governance with Area Boards working alongside Community Area Partnerships in each of Wiltshire’s 20 community areas
- Build the capacity of Town and Parish Councils to engage in the new arrangements for local democracy
- In partnership with communities develop a positive culture that encourages civic participation and develops the role of frontline councillors and other community leaders
- Improve customer access to information and services e.g. through a
- single point of contact for information on public services such as ‘Ask Jeeves’ or ‘Start Here’ websites
3.Build a vibrant, strong and influential third sector across Wiltshire
- Take forward the review of the relationship between the public sector and the voluntary and community sector
- Build on the capacity and skills of the Voluntary Sector Forum in Wiltshire to become an influential voice which represents the sector effectively
- Implement a programme to increase the profile and awareness of Wiltshire’s Compact
- Agree a way forward increasing investment and opportunities for volunteering across Wiltshire
