Housing handyperson service

Please tell us what you think about our website, we welcome your feedback.

A Handyperson Service is available to the Council's tenants for some work which is not covered under the Council's normal repairs service or their tenancy conditions. Labour for the service will be free for the first four hours work for tenants who receive Housing Benefit. Subsequent work, and work for all other tenants, will be charged at a subsidised rate of £10 an hour. Work will be limited to 4 hours a year, although an exception may be made for decorating or gardening work. When arranging the work, priority will be given to tenants aged 60 or over, or tenants receiving Disabled Living Allowance in respect of their own disability. If you wish the Council to supply materials for the work these will be charged for.

Where a charge is to be made for the service we will provide you with a quotation. Payment must be made before the work is done. The reason for this is to avoid the Council being left with debts to chase which would add to our costs. In order to keep the ordering system as simple as possible, we will be able to take credit/debit card payments over the phone. If you do not have a credit/debit card you may be able to order the work via someone who does. Alternatively payment can be made by cash or cheque at a post office, although this may delay commencement of the work.

Please note that the handyperson service is not an emergency service. Emergency repairs should be reported by calling the repairs lines on 01722 434724 or 0800 1697373 during office hours; by calling into the Council Office at 27-29 Milford Street, Salisbury between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday; or at other times by calling the out-of-hours service on 01722 411676.
