Wiltshire’s library received funding from the National Lottery through Arts Council England to run a programme of creative and arts activities during 2014 called Creative Libraries.  A small number of activities remain:

There were five core commissions:

We also ran a programme of participatory workshops and micro-commissions with artists including Anita Andrews, David Davies, Anna Harriot, Jan Lane, Helen Morgan, Brigid Moss, Pageturners, Laurence Dube-Rushby, Salisbury Playhouse, Angela Street, and Sif Wolthers.

There were also events in Corsham at the new library in Springfield community campus, programmed by Pound Arts.

We will be sharing some of our evaluation findings during Spring 2015. Creative evaluation was undertaken by Helen Morgan.  We will also share pictures, video and examples of the fantastic work our wonderful artists produced.

How artists can get involved

Artists who wish to be find out more about the project, including learning from the experience of the artists involved and finding our more about the evaluation, should follow updates on Wiltshire Council’s Arts In Wiltshire blog. In Spring 2015 we will be holding an experience sharing conference, based on our evaluation and the experience of artists.

More information about the project

The Creative Libraries project was funded by the National Lottery through Arts Council England’s Grants for the Arts libraries fund. The main activity was around five core commissions, with a series of participatory workshops and smaller commissions taking place in a range of libraries. The purpose was to explore how libraries engage with the arts, inspire the arts, and how the arts can illuminate and bring to life our spaces. The project ran during 2014. We have been enjoying working closely with our colleagues in the Arts Service, and with a range of artists across Wiltshire.
