Wiltshire as part of its healthy schools award has developed a programme of walking and cycling to encourage children to have a healthier lifestyle.
Bikeability - Bikeability is the Cycling Proficiency Test for the 21st century, designed to give the next generation the skills and confidence to ride their bikes on today's busy roads. From spring 2007, thousands of children will have the chance to get the new Bikeability award in a national scheme which is rolling out across England. Wiltshire County Council is proud to be one of the first local authorities to be offering the complete Bikeability programme.
Walk Safe - The aim is to further reduce child casualties in Wiltshire. It is available free through primary schools, (available in Key Stage 1 & 2). The reduction of child pedestrian casualties is something that Wiltshire County Council takes very seriously and therefore the Road Safety Unit has developed the Wiltshire Walk Safe Programme for schools to help children acquire the necessary skills to become safer pedestrians.
Making a Journey - The aim is to further reduce child casualties in Wiltshire. It is available free through primary schools, (available in Key Stage 2 & Year 6).
There is no charge for the pedestrian training and only a £5 charge for Bikeability to cover administration costs, course resources and badges/certificates.
