Summary of Service
The Economic Research and Intelligence Unit (ERIU) works to provide appropriate research, evidence and analysis in support of policy formulation. The resulting reports are available through the Wiltshire and Swindon Intelligence Network and are briefly summarised on the related pages.
Details of Service
The ERIU undertakes surveys and prepares projections in the economic and demographic fields. Further data relating to Wiltshire is available from national datasets available through the Office for National Statistics and NOMIS. The datasets maintained by the ERIU are detailed below.
Census
The ERIU has access to the full output from the 1991 and 2001 Census. Summary information is available on the Census pages of this website. There are also some Census reports on the Intelligence Network. Further information is available through the channels below.
Index of Deprivation
This index was created by the ODPM to identify small pockets of deprivation. Reports covering Wiltshire and Swindon can be found on the Intelligence Network.
Employment Land Monitoring
The ERIU records the development of employment land across Wiltshire County. This is then aggregated with the equivalent Swindon data. An annual report is available through the Intelligence Network.
Rural Facilities Survey
The ERIU surveys the rural settlements within Wiltshire and Swindon to evaluate the level of provision in these areas. The survey takes place every three to four years and reports are available through the Intelligence Network.
Population Projections
Population projections are calculated on a variety of bases. These can then be used to forecast policy implications and to ensure that the Council provides for the future population.
Small Area Population Estimates
These are produced every year and are controlled to match the projections. They are produced to cover a range of small geographies. The outputs are available in a report through the Intelligence Network. Different geographical outputs are available from the ERIU.
