You don’t need any special qualifications or previous experience to be a foster carer with us, but you do need plenty of common sense, patience, a willingness to learn, a good sense of humour and the flexibility to adapt to different situations.
To care for children from another family, you must be willing to work in partnership with Wiltshire County Council and demonstrate a mature and responsible attitude. Some children with a learning disability behave in ways that can be bizarre or embarrassing. You also need to be aware that some children might not recognise potentially dangerous situations (e.g roads, rivers, etc).
With your commitment and our support, you can care for a disabled child (or children) in your home. Working together with us, the child’s family and all those involved, you’ll succeed in helping disabled children widen their experience and enable their families to have that essential break.
