The WCC document “Young People & Drugs: Guidelines for schools”, last updated and sent to all Wiltshire Schools in 2005, contains comprehensive guidance for schools on:

  • Drug education
  • Managing Drug Related Incidents
  • Drug Policy Making
In summary all schools shouls ensure that they provide:
  • A well planned drug education programme which takes account of the needs of pupils so that teaching is relevant and engaging
  • A drug policy developed in consultation with the whole school community which outlines the school’s response to all drug matters
  • strategies in place to identify and support young people for whom drugs may be a problem
  • staff who are confident and skilled in addressing drug issues

Development of these areas will support the vision of Every Child Matters and help to move forward the work of the Healthy Schools Programme in your school.

For further support with any drug related issue Wiltshire schools may contact the School Drug Advisers on 01380 733808.

Training, advice and support is provided for Wiltshire schools and those that work with them by the LEA Health Team, who can be contacted on the above number.

If you have any comments or suggestions about the safer schools pages, please send them to saferschools@wiltshire.gov.uk or fill in and return our feedback form.
