Responsibility for school security tends to be shared between the LEA, Head and Governors. Generally, the LEA will decide a broad policy, which heads and governors tailor to fit the specific circumstances of their school. You are required as part of the pastoral duties of the school to safeguard the safety and well being of your students, but also that of your staff as their employer.
In some areas, schools have developed Safer Schools Partnerships, where a police officer is based in the school. Although this model may not be directly applicable to Wiltshire schools, there are lessons which can be learnt from it. More information can be found on the Safer Schools Partnership website, and from the Youth Justice Board.
If you have any comments or suggestions about the safer schools pages, please send them to saferschools@wiltshire.gov.uk or fill in and return our feedback form.
