Creating a safe and secure environment at school is as much your responsibility as it is anyone else’s. If you think your school feels safe already, think about what it is that makes it feel like that. Can anything be done to improve these things? Does everyone else think the school feels safe?
One way to see how you make your school feel safer is to do some consultation. There are lots of different ways to do this:
Trying to do any of these things on your own would be a lot of work. If you ask a member of staff for help, it could become a project for example in PSHE or in your Citizenship classes. And don’t forget to ask staff what they think, they might not feel safe everywhere in the school either.
Safety and security is important on the way to and from school too.
You might worry that you won’t be taken seriously, but every young person has a right to be listened to. Article 12 is an organisation which helps promotes young people’s rights.
