Adopted Waste Local Plan

Top

The Wiltshire and Swindon Waste Local Plan (WLP) was formally adopted by Wiltshire County Council and Swindon Borough Council in March 2005. It is now a statutory element of the Development Plan for Wiltshire and Swindon and will be relevant to all waste related development proposals. The WLP sets out the waste planning framework for Wiltshire and Swindon for the period to 2011, a framework made up of 27 Preferred Area allocations and 24 waste planning policies.

The WLP is also applicable to a range of other development determined by the Wiltshire and Swindon Local Planning Authorities, such as housing, retail, schools, roads and business, by virtue of WLP Policies 10 and 14 requiring the auditing of waste arising through demolition and construction and the provision of recycling and composting facilities for occupiers of new developments.

A background to the WLP is available on this web-site along with a list of frequently asked questions to provide further information on how the WLP was produced, was it covers and how its proposals will be implemented.

Adopted WLP Supplementary Planning Guidance

To assist in the implementation of the WLP policies 10 and 14 Supplementary Planning Guidance has been prepared outlining how waste audits may be carried out and detailing the issues that need to be addressed when considering provisions for recycling and composting as part of new and refurbished developments.

WLP Preferred Area S11: Ratfyn - Archaeology Briefing Note

WLP Preferred Area S11: Ratfyn (Amesbury) is a strategic preferred area in a particularly sensitive location. One of the key issues at this site is archaeology, and the ability of any development at site S11 to impact upon archaeological sites, features and settings, particularly to the close proximity of the Stonehenge World Heritage Site area and nearby Woodhenge. To assist the consideration of relevant archaeological issues through any planning application for development at this site this Archaeology Briefing Note has been prepared, outlining key guidance and policy that must be addressed.
