Park ranger

About this service

Country Parks and Open Spaces are great places to experience the countryside, providing valuable 'green lungs' within urban areas and a real sense of the countryside when located further afield. A number of Country Parks and Open Spaces are managed by Wiltshire Council and Wiltshire's District and Borough Councils. Both Wiltshire Council and Swindon Borough Council also employ Countryside Ranger Services.

The County Council directly owns, leases and manages a number of countryside sites across Wiltshire that are open to the public free of charge for quiet informal recreation and enjoyment. Some sites are countryside destinations in their own right, whilst others provide gateways to the wider countryside. Many of the sites have high nature conservation, landscape, archaeological, historical or recreational value. For more detailed information about each countryside site please see the Related pages links below.

Needs

When planning a visit to a countryside site ensure that you take appropriate clothing for the time of year and stout footwear. Make sure that someone is aware of your destination and the time you will be there. Remember, never leave valuables in an unattended car.

Payment

Most Country Parks and Open Spaces are free of charge to use but entry charges apply on some sites. If in doubt, contact the relevant Countryside Ranger Service or organisation for further information.

Eligibility

Country Parks and Open Spaces are usually open to anyone. There may, however, be certain sections of some of the more remote countryside sites that provide difficulties for people with mobility problems. If in doubt, contact the relevant Countryside Ranger Service or organisation for further information.
