What is the spatial planning service?
The Spatial Planning Service, which is a part of the Economy and Enterprise directorate, comprises four teams; the LDF team; the Minerals and Waste team; the Monitoring and Evidence team, and the Strategic Landscape Team.
- LDF team - produces the Local Development Framework (LDF), a group of planning policy documents that act together to guide development in a local authority area.
- Minerals and Waste team - prepares policy documents for the extraction of minerals resources and for the development of waste facilities which also form part of the LDF.
- Monitoring and Evidence team – monitors the effectiveness of existing planning policies and collates the information that informs the preparation of these policies.
- Strategic Landscape team – protects and conserves Wiltshire’s landscape and natural heritage and works with countryside colleagues to provide facilities, access and opportunities for people to enjoy it.
What is the status of existing district local plans and supplementary planning guidance?
Until replaced by policies within new development plan documents (DPDs), such as the core strategy, the current policies contained with the existing local plans and associated supplementary planning guidance/ documents continue to form part of the development plan for Wiltshire and will be used to inform decisions on planning applications. The application of these policies will be based on the previous administrative boundaries to which they originally related.
How is the spatial planning service involved with planning applications?
The spatial planning service is consulted on all planning applications that have policy implications. We encourage pre-application discussions and consultation with prospective applicants.
