Waste local plan

About this service

The Wiltshire and Swindon Waste Local Plan was adopted in March 2005. In September 2007, most of the policies were 'saved' and remain extant until replaced by policies in the Minerals and Waste Development Plan Documents.

Background

The Wiltshire and Swindon Waste Local Plan (WLP) was formally adopted by the former Wiltshire Council and Swindon Borough Council, in March 2005. It is currently a statutory element of the Development Plan for Wiltshire and Swindon and will be relevant to all waste related development proposals.

The WLP sets out the waste planning framework for Wiltshire and Swindon for the period to 2011, a framework made up of 27 Preferred Area allocations and 24 waste planning policies.

The WLP is also applicable to a range of other development determined by the Wiltshire and Swindon Local Planning Authorities, such as housing, retail, schools, roads and business, by virtue of WLP Policies 10 and 14 requiring the auditing of waste arising through demolition and construction and the provision of recycling and composting facilities for occupiers of new developments.
