Minerals and waste evidence base

Background

In July 2009, Wiltshire Council and Swindon Borough Council formally adopted the Minerals and Waste Core Strategies. The other minerals and waste development plan documents (DPD) will be progressed using the evidence base assembled for the core strategies, which will be improved as necessary. Important additional work for the Site Allocations DPD is being undertaken, for example, relating to strategic flood risk and the Habitats Regulations Assessment.

Strategic Flood Risk Assessment (SFRA)

Since preparing the Level 1 assessment the Environment Agency have remodelled the flood zones. A revised version of the SFRA can be viewed below.

Evidence Base Report

As a core element of the evidence base, the purpose of the Draft Evidence Base Report is to provide a clear, robust and up to date collation of relevant information available to date. The evidence base will be subject to continual review and updated regularly. Therefore the report provided below represents a snapshot in time for the current round of consultation on minerals and waste planning policy.

The evidence included in this report will be used by the Local Planning Authorities of Wiltshire and Swindon to demonstrate that a minerals or waste LDD submitted to the Secretary of State for independent examination is 'sound'.

Rail Aggregate Depot Study

Wiltshire Council and Swindon Borough Council completed a preliminary study investigating the potential for future rail aggregate depots within the County and Borough. This work was undertaken in response to the Inspectors report into the MLP Public Local Inquiry (published November 2000) and was used to inform debate through the Minerals Development Framework Forum to establish whether suitable additional or alternative rail aggregate depots should be specifically allocated or safeguarded.

The study which, commenced in August 2002, was undertaken by the two planning authorities in consultation with members of the rail and mineral industry and seventy stakeholders who were identified as having an interest in this area of study.

Below is a copy of the Executive Summary, and full Rail Aggregate Depot Study Report which was formally approved by the two planning authorities in December 2003.
