Equality and Diversity

Top

Wiltshire County Council (WCC) is firmly committed to the principles of equality and diversity in both employment and the delivery of services and is keen to celebrate the diversity of people who live and work in Wiltshire. This means making services accessible to all and treating people fairly regardless of their colour, race, ethnic or national origin, language, religion or belief, gender or gender reassignment, marital status, sexuality, disability, age, or any illness or infection.

What is ‘equality and diversity’ about?

Equality is not about everybody being equal; it is about everybody having equal opportunities and removing barriers that stop this from happening. Diversity is about valuing everyone as an individual, whether they are an employee, a customer or another stakeholder. It goes beyond recognising individual differences and is about valuing and celebrating ‘difference’ as an asset, giving organisations access to unique mixtures of talent, skills and experience that can make valuable contributions to organisational performance.

Why is equality & diversity important to WCC?

Valuing, involving and understanding all Wiltshire’s diverse communities, including hard-to-reach groups, is essential for the Council to achieve its aims of providing excellent services at an affordable cost; achieving high public satisfaction; and being a transparent and local council.

Where can I find out more about WCC’s approach to equality and diversity?

WCC has published a number of policies and schemes promoting equal opportunities and action plans which aim to address any inequalities:
