Budgets and bargains

This course will help you to understand how to look after your money better. You will learn tips and techniques to budget and stretch your money further. You might explore ways to save on your utility bills, options for saving or managing credit and supporting your children in being more aware of money matters. There will be discussions about the Universal Credit benefit system. 


This is a small, classroom-based course where you’ll learn together and take part in practical group activities, all in a relaxed and friendly environment. 


This course is for parents and carers who wish to improve their money management and want to be able to support their child’s learning in this area. 
Any adult family member or carer who would like to develop their confidence with money matters and supporting their children with their learning in this area. 

  • Understand language of money and ‘bargains’ 
  • How to discuss money with your children 
  • How to create a basic budget 
  • How to plan for your future 
  • Share money saving tips 
  • Work out best buys and discounts 
  • Understand your rights as a consumer 
  • Find out how you can access help with debt 

This is run as 1 ½ or 2 hour sessions over 5 weeks with some money related activities to do at home to help you manage your family budget.

This course is free to all adults who have not achieved GCSE grades A-C L2 maths/and or English qualifications, service families, British and EU residents and . The funding for this course does not support paid carers of other children to attend, unless attending with their own child.


You will be required to complete some paperwork during this course. This will record and support your learning journey and successes.
