Wiltshire County Council and Primary Care Trusts in Wiltshire work together to support and fund independent advocacy services for service users.
It is recognised that services users occasionally need access to independently provided advocacy services. These services are there to enable service users assert their views and needs when dealing with a range of services and situations. The Advocacy services are located across Wiltshire and are geared up to meet the needs of the range of users.
These services are free to use and are either user lead or user influenced, they are all independent of the statutory authorities. Some Self advocacy organisations are also supported and available. A review is currently taking place with a view to further improving the availability of advocacy services in Wiltshire.
A report has been commissioned by Wiltshire County Council, Department of Adult and Community Services to seek the views of Service Users about the Advocacy in Wiltshire. The report outlines what qualities and experiences service users look for in advocates, as well as how they can be recruited and supported and in what circumstances they can help. It outlines how service users feel an Advocacy service should be provided and publicized, in the context of our large and rural county. This report will help inform the current debate about how we can develop a vision and strategy for Advocacy across Wiltshire.
