Adult abuse

Please tell us what you think about our website, we welcome your feedback.

What do we mean by abuse?

Abuse can be physical, psychological, financial, discriminatory or sexual or be caused by neglect.

Abuse can take place where a person lives, within a care home or day service, in hospital, in custodial situations, in a place where support services are being provided or in a public place.

Abuse can be carried out by partners, relatives, friends, volunteers or someone employed to provide a health, housing or social care service.

What is Wiltshire Council doing about the abuse of vulnerable people?

The Council expects health and social care services to work in a way that respects people’s dignity, independence, choice and safety and to have a zero tolerance of abuse.

Wiltshire Council will always take seriously any concerns about the abuse of a vulnerable person and will carry out an investigation using the multi-agency Safeguarding Adults’ Procedures.

These Procedures are used to investigate all allegations of abuse even if a person is in hospital, funding their own care services or is being funded by an authority outside Wiltshire.
