Safeguarding adults: information for service providers

Please tell us what you think about our website, we welcome your feedback.

Keeping people safe in Wiltshire is everyone’s responsibility.

However, organisations that provide services to people who may be at a higher risk of abuse have a particular responsibility to ensure that they understand about abuse,

This includes:

  • understanding what is meant by abuse
  • working in a way which actively prevents abuse
  • knowing how to report any concerns.

The information listed below is intended to assist service providers to do this.

“Policy and procedures for safeguarding vulnerable adults in Swindon and Wiltshire” 1mb

The “Policy and procedures for safeguarding vulnerable adults in Swindon and Wiltshire” (Safeguarding Adults’ Procedures) has been developed by Wiltshire Council and Swindon Borough Council in partnership with the local NHS services, the Wiltshire Probation Area and the Wiltshire Police.

This document describes the way in which Swindon Borough Council and Wiltshire Council work in partnership with other agencies to investigate allegations of adult abuse.

The “Safeguarding Adults’ Procedures” should always be used when there is an allegation or suspicion that a vulnerable person, over the age of 18, is being abused or neglected - that is being caused ‘significant harm’ - by another person or group of people.

The “Safeguarding Adults Procedures” applies to all residents of Swindon and Wiltshire even if they are funding their own care services, or are being funded by an authority outside Swindon and Wiltshire.

Although the document should be understood as a whole, it is particularly important that trustees, directors and managers have read the following sections:

  • Section O: Agency roles and responsibilities
  • Section T: Allegations against staff
