Children and young people’s plan

The Wiltshire Children and Young People’s Plan is a three year plan to help make life better for children and young people in Wiltshire. It outlines the priorities of the Wiltshire Children and Young People’s Trust Board to improve the well-being of children and young people in Wiltshire - specifically to help ensure that children and young people: are healthy, stay safe, enjoy and achieve, make a positive contribution and achieve economic well being.

The Trust Board, which is made up of the Council, health services and other children’s services, works to ensure young people in Wiltshire are well served, that they have access to effective services, and that these are well coordinated.

The plan highlights ten priorities which include:

  • supporting mental well-being,
  • improving achievement,
  • providing “Things to do – places to go – people to talk to” for young people;
  • tackling obesity,
  • improving sexual health.

For each of the ten priorities, the plan sets out how things are going to be better for children and young people. This includes,

  • Setting up more Children’s Centres in the county to provide support to families of young children
  • Providing more flexible support for families of disabled children & young people
  • Encouraging teenagers to stay in education longer by ensuring advice and guidance.
  • Providing children & young people who experience the effects of domestic abuse with better access to help
  • Providing a “No Worries” (young person specific sexual health) services in all Wiltshire towns
  • Making “Things to do – places to go – people to talk to” more accessible for young people
