Canon’s House is an eight bedroom home in Devizes that provides short-term residential breaks for young people (Age 5-17 years) with a severe learning disability who are assessed by Wiltshire Council’s Children’s Disability Teams as being in need of that service.
Primarily Canons House meets the needs of severely learning-disabled children who have such specialist needs that all other sources of short breaks are not enough and who meet one or more of the following criteria:
- Children whose physical disabilities and size necessitate extensive use of equipment
- Children whose personal care requires at least two people
- Children who have extensive medical needs e.g. tube feeding, complex medication, severe epilepsy
- Children who need significant attention at night time
- Children whose needs require a high level of intensive attention
- Children who are active but not safe on their own
- Children whose behaviours people generally find difficult to tolerate
