Welcome to Wiltshire’s disabled children's information database

What is the database for/ why should I sign up?

The Key is a secure and encrypted register for children and young people aged 0-25 years with disabilities or special educational needs. The Key aims to improve access and take up of services, and identify gaps in provision. The information you provide is important as it will be used to assist in the planning, monitoring and development of services for disabled children and their families in Wiltshire.

With your contact details, we will be able to keep you up-to-date with developments relating to services for disabled children and young people in Wiltshire.

If you are registered on The Key, Wiltshire’s Disabled Children’s Information database, or you hold a Carers Emergency Card you are eligible to receive the Wiltshire Passport card. The Wiltshire Passport will enable you to receive small discounts or additional services from businesses and organisations that are signed up to the scheme for more information please see the Wiltshire Passport webpage. The Wiltshire Passport card will be sent to you automatically after you have registered on either or both schemes.

How do I know if my child should be registered?

If your child has learning or physical disabilities, sensory or communication impairment, complex health needs, epilepsy, emotional behavioural difficulties or Autistic Spectrum Disorder.

What happens to the information

The information you give us will be held until the child turns 25, then it will be archived.

If you request that your details are removed from the Key this will happen within 60 days.

How do I put my child's details on the database?

Registration is to be completed by, or on behalf of the child or young person who has a disability (for example, a parent or carer could complete the form)

A separate form will need to be completed for each child in the family who is disabled.
