Shortcuts for short breaks for disabled children (family link)

About this service

The Family Link scheme is our family-based short breaks scheme for disabled children. It is designed to give families a regular short break from the pressures of daily care, while enabling the child to have new and positive opportunities with a family link carer.

Family link can be provided on a daytime basis for over 8's, or an overnight basis for all ages and is usually required during weekends and school holidays.

Family Link carers make a real and valuable difference to the lives of disabled children and their families. They offer opportunities for fun, for outings, new experiences and an exceptional quality of care designed to meet each childs' specific needs. Family Link carers liase closely with families to ensure that essential routines are met, and receive full initial training, have access to ongoing training programs and undertake specific training, if required, to meet a child's individual need.

We are always looking for new Family Link carers. You don't need any specific experience or qualifications, but you do need space in your life and in your home to be able to provide a regular break at the equivalent of at least a weekend per month.

For more information about our Family Link scheme and details on how you can become a carer, go to the Wiltshire Family Link website.
