A new project for Wiltshire, this project works holistically with all the family to make positive changes for the family and the community that they live in.
Funded through the DCSF and housing challenge monies matched by our three main Registered Social landlords in the county; Sarsen, Westlea & Selwood.
Based on a project first piloted in Dundee in 1995 this work has been rolled out throughout the UK over the past 3-4 years with not only Youth Crime Family Intervention Projects but Child Poverty, Anti Social behaviour and more recently Women Offenders.
The referral for a family will come from a professional from any sector and will have been signed by the family. There will need to be evidence that a child within the family is at risk or in the criminal justice system. There are also likely to be other issues for the family and these could include housing issues.
The work is intense and delivered not only during ‘normal working hours’ but evenings and weekends. The timings will be service user led. We will work closely with our partner agencies to ensure that this family receive a fully rounded service that addresses all the needs of all the family.
The work will involve not only addressing the child/young person risks and needs but the family as a whole. This could include helping the family with housing needs, helping parent(s) returned to work, issues around the family dynamics.
The end result will be the risk of the child/children in the family continuing through the criminal justice system is reduced and the family are empowered to work together to help the children achieve the Every Child Matters outcomes. The work should also help to improve life for the family in the community they live and for the community they live in as a whole.
