What is Shopmobility?

Christmas opening times

Shopmobility is a scheme that enables people with temporary or permanent walking difficulties to get about in Salisbury city centre.

Members of the scheme can hire vehicles and walking aids that allow them to access the shops and facilities that Salisbury offers. The city centre provides good access for wheelchair users and those with walking difficulties, with numerous dropped kerbs, regular crossing points and widened pavements.

Shopmobility Salisbury is able to provide equipment including:

  • electric scooters (three- and four-wheel)
  • power chairs
  • manual wheelchairs (in various sizes)
  • shopper walkers

Registering for membership is simple. You can become a member and hire equipment on your first visit by bringing a recognised form of identification to the office. Examples of acceptable forms of identification include:

  • Passport
  • Driving licence

  • Bus pass

You may bring other forms of identification, but any identification must carry your name, current address and your signature to be acceptable.

What if I am unable to get to the Shopmobility office?

If you are unable to get to the office, Shopmobility can deliver the equipment to your desired location within the city centre. This could be the coach, bus or train station if you are travelling by public transport into Salisbury, or any location within the city centre that is convenient for you.

If you are not registered with us, you will be asked to come to the office to complete the registration form before being allowed to use the equipment.

It is always advisable to request this service in advance. Shopmobility relies on volunteers for this service and it might not always be possible to meet demand.

How long can I hire the equipment for?

Powered equipment is for daily hire only. However, long-term hire of manual wheelchairs is available to residents and to visitors staying within the area over a longer period.
