Wiltshire is internationally famous for its history and archaeology. If you would like to visit this exceptional heritage, or help preserve it, or just find out more, use Wiltshire County Council’s broad range of dedicated Heritage Services.
From 31 October 2007 these services became available under one roof for the first time - at Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre, Cocklebury Road, Chippenham.
Heritage Services comprise the following:
Wiltshire and Swindon Archives give access to the historic records of the County and Swindon Borough. The archives are always being added to - they can be given, bequeathed, lent or sold to the service. Access to records is provided at the new Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre and by phone, post, e-mail or the web.
The Archaeology Service; the Museum Service; and the Conservation Service provide services in those fields including general information on museums and galleries and advice on loans, donations, bequests and sales to museums and galleries. In addition, Wiltshire County Council Heritage Services works closely with the Wiltshire Buildings Record which is a voluntary society and educational charity, and with the Wiltshire Art Collections.
